A special thank you & video from our women farm entrepreneurs
At our Fall Benefit on October 2nd we honored Ambassador Melanne S. Verveer with our inaugural Seeding the Future Award. She gave a powerful testament to the importance of supporting Afghan women, particularly those working in Afghanistan’s agricultural sector. With women representing over half of Afghanistan’s farm labor force, GPFA’s programs have supported 9,300 women-owned farm enterprises over the years and our programs are currently reaching more than 900 women farmers.
To commemorate this occasion, we launched GPFA’s Afghan Women’s Catalyst Fund to build on the success of GPFA’s current women agriculture entrepreneur programs and allow us to help more women start farm businesses.
This short video lets you hear from our farmers how we’re making a tangible difference in their lives.
From our beginning we knew we could not do this work alone, which was the impetus to include the word “partnership” in our name. So thank you for being one of our hundreds of partners who help make all we do possible. We look forward to sharing more about this year’s accomplishments and our plans for 2014 with you in the weeks ahead.

P.S. Did you know that you can support GPFA through workplace giving? If you are a federal employee you can donate through the Combined Federal Campaign using GPFA’s CFC # 89915.The United Way is also a popular way for employees to give to their favorite nonprofits through their workplace. And many employers will also match gifts their employees make to charitable causes like GPFA. Ask your human resources department for more information on how you can boost your support of GPFA!
