Replanting and Revitalizing Orchards, Vineyards and Nurseriesboy_harvesting_apples

GPFA’s work in horticulture:

  • helps growers revitalize and replant orchards, vineyards, nurseries and vegetable gardens.
  • guides farmers to increase income from existing orchards and vineyards through better stock, training and supplies.
  • provides government, commercial and private nurseries and farmers access to the best quality, disease-free tree and plant stock, thereby assuring farmers’ investments of labor, land and capital will yield high quality fruit and nuts.

Home vegetable gardens provide immediate income while orchards generate revenues that will help support a family of seven within 3-5 years.

In Afghanistan’s south central Paktya and Paktika provinces, Global Partnership for Afghanistan is helping men and women transform their nurseries and improve their lives. With financial assistance and training from GPFA, nursery owners are employing newly acquired techniques and skills to produce high quality plants for distribution to local orchards. The production and sale of these saplings ensures long-term financial success for the nursery operators and reinvigoration of Afghanistan’s horticulture industry. Read more here.
